Lee K's Bio
I have collected comics for as long as I can remember. I think my defining moment happened when I was about 7. I had all of my comics stacked neatly in the corner of my bedroom closet well away from the toys & shoes - anyway I woke one morning to find that my precious cat had chosen that wonderful pile of Fantastic Fours, JLA's, Avengers, and Green Lanterns as the perfect location to nest and give birth to her kittens. Obviously, these were probably not the 'finest, highest graded' versions known to man - but I loved them and there was a big glob of afterbirth on Galactus' head (I remember this vividly).
Over the years I have continued to buy & read current comics while collecting whatever caught my eye. Recently, I have begun collecting slabbed books as well as slabbing some of my better pieces. I decided that if I was going to collect CGC books I should have a more defined focus, and I have selected the Checkerboard covers issued by DC in 1966 & 1967. I feel that, thematically, these books comprise a beautiful set. DC introduced and re-introduced a number of important characters in these books, as well as some first issues - plus there are enough issues over the numerous titles, that I need never struggle to find a prticular issue. While there are a lot of nice books in this set (2nd SA Spectre, 1st Barbara Gordon, 1st Poison Ivy) there are also a number of less important issues (Inferior 5, B'wana Beast), so a nice cross-section is available for me both in desirability and price.
As I don't have unlimited funds, my target grade is 9.0 & 9.2, but I am considering anything from 8.5 to 9.4 that is universal and doesn't have any date stamps or writing on the front cover.
Good to know you, and good hunting.
