Owner's Description

The Trial of Captain America: Part 5 (Conclusion)

Lots of Spoilers in this description!

Last issue set the stage for a confrontation between Bucky and Sin/Cap and the Red Skull at the Statue of Liberty. Of course, Steve Rogers and Sharon Carter are on the scene as well, helping to hold things down.

Sin/Red Skull sets off an explosion, which catches all of our heroes off guard - but there's a twist. The explosion does not set off all the explosives, but rather a smaller batch which takes of the eye of the Statue of Liberty and nearly Bucky as well (good thing the Falcon was around). It looks like Sin/Red Skull was after a symbolic victory. Steve chastises Bucky for disobeying his orders and putting the outcome of the trial in jeopardy.

The closing arguments of the trial are quite compelling as Brubaker posits good statements for both sides of the trial. Bucky ultimately declares himself guilty of the charges because the acts were done with his skills, his hands. The judge sentences Bucky to 20 years, but commutes the sentence to time served!

Then the shocking twist - Russian officials enter the court room and declare that the Winter Soldier has already been convicted of crimes against the state of Russia in Absentia!

To Be Continued in . . . "Gulag"!
