Synopsis: "I'm Wolverine" In the Canadian Rockies, Wolverine is tracking down a bear, which has already killed seven men, three women, and five kids. Once he finds the bear, Wolverine is locked in a struggle with him until it ends with the bear’s ultimate demise. Wolverine finds an illegal poison-tipped arrow in the back of the bear, which leads him to a local bar and an unscrupulous hunter. After Wolverine turns him into the authorities, he makes his way back to the X-mansion in New York. Once there, he finds a number of letters and cards that he sent to Mariko Yashida, returned and unopened. When he tries to call her, he is hung up on. Concerned, he gets on the next plane out to Tokyo to see her. In Tokyo, he is met by a man by the name of Asano Kimura, a former associate of his. He learns from Asano that Mariko is now married. Ignoring pleas from Asano to not purse the matter, he makes his way to the Yashida ancestral stronghold in the port city of Agarashima. Wolverine is able to locate Mariko and after a brief, heartfelt discussion, he finds out that her new husband beats her. As they are talking, Mariko’s husband walks in on them talking. Wolverine is going to kill him for what he did to Mariko but she pleads with him not to. Disgusted, Wolverine goes to leave the palace when he is struck by poisoned throwing stars. When he awakes, he meets Lord Shingen, Mariko’s father, who challenges him to a duel with wooden swords. Shingen is able to get the better of Wolverine in all aspects, until Wolverine ultimately drops the sword in favor of his claws. This does not matter, however, as Shingen is able to best him in combat. With Wolverine beaten, Shingen shows Mariko what Wolverine is - an animal in the form of a man. Disgusted by this, Mariko turns her back on him. When he awakens, Wolverine is in an alley in Tokyo. He is about to be beaten up some more, until a mysterious female stranger arrives in the nick of time to save him. Once she does, she indicates to Wolverine that he is hers, now and forever.

"Debts and Obligations" Wolverine awakes from the beating he just took from Lord Shingen in the strange woman’s apartment. He learns that her name is Yukio. Only problem is that there is no other time for pleasantries, as they are attacked by a horde of ninjas known as the Hand! Wolverine is able to take out the assassins. Once that is done, he grabs Yukio and they retreat back to Wolverine’s hotel room. Yukio informs Wolverine that a crime lord is after her and she fears for her safety. Wolverine offers his services to her and Yukio tries to repay his kindness with romance. Wolverine rebuffs her and retires to his slumber. That night, Yukio goes over to Shingen’s office. She is given two tasks to complete. One is to assassinate Katsuyori, the other to eliminate Wolverine. The next day, Yukio tells Wolverine about the crime lord who is bothering her – his name is Katsuyori. She knows where he will be, so Wolverine heads over there with her so he can persuade him to leave Yukio alone. After taking out Katsuyori’s guards, he makes it to the stage, where he sees the four people at this meeting. It is Katsuyori and his wife, and Mariko and her husband. The four in attendance watch the kabuki show that is being performed. When it reaches it’s climactic conclusion, the lead character goes to kill Mariko!!! Wolverine notices this and takes him out. He then lands on the stage so he can protect Mariko from her attackers. While that fight ensues, Katsuyori makes his way out of the theatre to find his guards all dead. As he loads his wife into their car, it explodes into a million pieces. The culprit - Yukio. Back in the theatre, Wolverine is continuing his assault on the assassins until one of them is able to connect with a killing blow. However, with Wolverine’s adamantium skeleton, it is not a killing blow, it is only a blow that drives him berserk. He proceeds to take out the rest of the assassins. Once done, he looks into Mariko’s face. She is disgusted and distraught over what she has just seen. Without saying a word, she turns and walks away. At that moment, Wolverine realizes whatever they had, whatever they might have had, is finished now. Wolverine is a broken man, dead inside. From behind the curtain, Yukio is pleased with the outcome!

"Loss" In a local bar, Wolverine is drunk and engaged in combat with a former sumo wrestler. After he tosses his combatant out the window, he and his partner in crime, Yukio, head outside. They are approached by Asano Kimura, who is waiting for them. Asano asks Wolverine for his help in taking down a crime-lord who has a power base from which he means to seize control of the country itself. Wolverine, after some coaxing from Yukio, declines Asano’s offer and heads down to the train tracks with Yukio. After a game of chicken with a bullet train, Wolverine falls asleep. As he sleeps, he dreams of himself in traditional Japanese warrior garb. In this dream, he is attempting to make contact with Mariko but is unable, thanks to numerous Japanese warriors that fill his body full of arrows. When he reaches Mariko, she hits him with another arrow, and hurts him again, this time his pride. While he sleeps, Yukio is approached by the Hand, who orders her to kill Wolverine, based on orders from Lord Shingen. Yukio defies them and kills the members of the Hand instead. As she attempts to awaken Wolverine, he wakes and utters the name of Mariko. Yukio is highly upset and floors him again with a kick to his face. Yukio then makes his way to Wolverine’s hotel room. Her intentions are unclear but, when someone enters the room, she drops them with a blade to their neck. Wolverine enters the room to find Asano dead from one of Yukio’s blades. He recognizes the scent on the blade and realizes that Yukio has been lying to him the entire time. He chases after her on the rooftops of Tokyo. He finally catches up to her and they land in a garden. Wolverine is about to take her out when the Hand arrives and attacks him. Wolverine is able to take out all of the members of the Hand in turn. After the battle, Wolverine feels weary. After some inner reflection, he realizes that it’s not about winning or losing. It’s about making the attempt. He then makes the promise to himself that he’s going to go after Shingen. Shingen’s biggest mistake was calling him a beast, and not a man!! And that mistake is going to cost him.

"Honor" Wolverine unleashes an attack on all those associated with Shingen. Everyone from the lowest to the highest. Shingen knows of these attacks and is not worried, as he has his best ninjas poised to take Wolverine out. When he receives a present that has ninja hoods and a note that simply has the word “Tonight” on it, he knows the situation is most sincere. He prepares himself to fight Wolverine one last time. Elsewhere, Wolverine prepares for their battle as well. In another, separate location, Mariko sits by herself and prays for guidance on what she should do. Over at Shingen’s compound, Yukio makes the attempt to infiltrate only to get herself captured. She is beaten severely by Shingen, only to get a reprieve when the radio calls out to Shingen. When Shingen picks it up and calls out to his posts does he know that Wolverine has arrived. Mariko’s husband, Noburu, grabs Mariko and goes to leave. He wants no part of this. He is stopped by Wolverine and threatens him with Mariko’s life until he is killed by Yukio. Yukio and Wolverine share a moment and she leaves. Wolverine follows Shingen and, after a long, hard struggle, he kills him. Mariko enters the room and offers the Masamune sword to Wolverine, for he is worthy of it. Wolverine declines it, thinking that he is not worthy of it. Mariko assures him that he is. Wolverine stays in Japan with Mariko until the spring, when he decides to write the X-Men. In the letter, he informs them that him and Mariko are to be wed. He also adds that Nightcrawler shouldn’t forget the beer!
