*Pedigree Background*
This collection was discovered by Shelton Drum, owner of Heroes Aren’t Hard to Find in North Carolina, and consigned to Heritage Auctions in its entirety (40,000). Drum purchased the comics from the original collector, a Savannah, GA resident who was middle-aged in the late 1950s when he began collecting in earnest, but continued purchasing every comic he could for the following 50 years.

“I was amazed by the consistent quality of the comics from 1959 and up,” Drum said. “While quite a few people have extensive collections of superhero comics from that era, almost nobody bought every genre. This collection also has all of the science fiction, horror/mystery, romance, and war comics, as well – lots of books you don’t usually see as a dealer or a collector. This guy bought everything! He collected DCs and Marvels as well as the other publishers like Charlton and Dell.”

The collector had an ingenious way to make sure he never missed an issue: he acquired the comics directly from the distributor from the late 1950s through the 1970s.

Story Title: "A World He Never Made!"

*Synopsis*

In order to prove that the Silver Surfer is either destroyed or has moved on to a new lover in order to get Shalla-Bal to agree to marrying him, Yarro Gort -- Zenn-La's most wealthy man -- has built a ship to take both of them to Earth.

Meanwhile, the Surfer decides to make another attempt to integrate himself into human society. Taking some clothes and left over money from the late Al Harper's home, the Surfer travels to a small South American town where he finds that it is under the control of an evil dictator. After defeating some soldiers who tried to arrest him for being out after curfew, the Surfer is brought in by a freedom fighter named Maria and hidden in her attic while she prepares to meet with her fellow resistance fighters.

However, Maria is captured, and when the Surfer awakens later, he travels to the dictator's ("El Capitan") castle and fights past the guards, and frees Maria. As they escape the castle, Maria kisses the Surfer in thanks, a sight which is seen by Shalla-Bal and Yarro as they arrive in Earth's atmosphere.
