Owner's Description

"First Strike!” Trish Tilby reports in the news that the relationship between the US and Genosha are strained. The island nation reports that the X-Men committed crimes within their borders (Uncanny X-Men #235-238) and for that will be brought to justice.

At the underground complex of Xavier’s school, Marvel Girl and Storm train against each other in the Danger Room. Banshee, Forge and Stevie Hunter observe from the control room, they want to explore the extent and control of Storm’s powers since her body has been reduced to adolescence. At first it looks like Jean can easily win, but Storm outsmarts her opponent and uses her powers a lot sneaker than she used to, by freezing the ground Jean stood on and pushing her over an edge with a small wind. Stevie is concerned that Ororo might push herself to hard, resulting in permanent injuries and almost proving her point, Storm’s powers fade out and she needs Jean to catch her from falling. Suddenly Cable and the New Mutants burst into the room. They want to use the Danger Room and consider it their right to do so any time since they have been living here for the past months when the remains of Xavier’s mansion were abandoned by the senior teams. The two groups have an argument, since Jean and Banshee as part of the X-Men lived there before any of the youngster team even knew about mutancy, but Storm cools everyone’s temper and solves the situation with diplomacy. She says that Cable has to accept that the New Mutants are part of a bigger whole, just as X-Men and X-Factor have to acknowledge Cable as the New Mutants leader. She then lets the younger team have their training session.
In Malibu, Fred Stanachek comes to the beach house of Lila Cheney to see Alison Blaire, of whom he hasn’t heard in weeks, even though her movie is a success (Uncanny X-Men #260). The bodyguard Guido informs him that she moved out and doesn’t want to be contacted by anyone. He then shows Freddie the way out. Suddenly Lila Cheney teleports in, she babbles about Xavier being in terrible danger as she passes out.

Meanwhile Ororo and Jean have made it to Harry’s Hideaway. The two friends renew their friendship. This is the first time in years that they can really talk; since Jean was found alive at the bottom of Jamaica Bay they only met once briefly during Inferno. After talking about past times, Jean asks if Forge has made any progress on Ororo’s current condition of being reduced to childhood, but in fact the opposite is the case. Any tests so far have only revealed that Storm’s condition is permanent and she is not aging or growing at all. Possibly she might remain a child forever like Peter Pan. Jean makes an ironic comment that Ororo now hasn’t enough body for her life, while she had too many lives (Phoenix, Madelyne) for one body. Unnoticed the two friends are watched by Genoshan forces that are hiding in a van outside. As Jean and Ororo return to the mansion they hug each other and Jean uses a small craft to fly back to X-Factor’s ship. In the woods Wolfsbane eavesdropped, she confronts Storm about her strategy to let the world believe the X-Men dead. Rahne is very angry, since she thinks it’s unfair that people like Jean or Ororo come back from death time and again but her teammate Douglas Ramsey is really gone. Rahne runs off, but Boom-Boom, Rictor, Stevie and Warlock overheard the argument. Without warning Genoshan forces attack the school and fire randomly. Storm recognizes the uniforms and equipment as Genoshan and realizes who deadly the threat is; she orders the New Mutants to retreat into the underground complex, but the team doesn’t follow her orders. Pipeline teleports in more troops and now the mutants are completely outnumbered. Storm pushes Stevie through a hatch into the underground complex and seals it off, right as Cable tries to get to the surface to help his charges. During the battle Ororo recognizes a familiar power signature, “borrowing“ one of Boom-Boom’s time bombs with a wind she renders one Magistrate unconscious and pulls his helmet off. As she suspected it is Havok, but why is he with the Genoshans ?
Down below the remaining New Mutants (Cable, Cannonball, Sunspot) and X-Men (Gambit, Banshee, Forge) wonder why Storm cut them off, since she must have a good reason for it, but anyway they head for the exit hatch through the lake.
The mutants on the surface (Storm, Wolfsbane, Rictor, Boom-Boom, Warlock) are all defeated and captured by the Genoshan troops. The Chief Magistrate Tam Andereson orders Pipeline to teleport all forces and the prisoners back to Genosha, and only seconds after they vanished the other halves of the teams emerge from the lake exit to find nothing left than their teammates empty clothes.

This issue begins the Extinction Agenda crossover.
