Owner's Description

“Big Night” Gambit had thought he was stranded on a strange planet after the X-Men’s ship was destroyed (see Uncanny X-Men 345), but finds himself confronted by two old friends, now bounty hunters, from his past: Spat and Grovel. They are on an assignment to capture him and take him somewhere, but they won’t say where or who hired them. They are upset with him about something that happened way back on Madagascar.

On another part of this landscape, a small stargate opens and out comes the cockpit of the starship the X-Men had been on; it crashes to the ground. The only ones aboard are Beast and Trish Tilby. Hank thinks that the others must have been deposited nearby, but suddenly he is struck with disorientation and faints.

Meanwhile, in the Morlock tunnels under New York, Marrow is treating Callisto for injuries received in their recent fight with two Prime Sentinels. Marrow expresses hatred for all “upworlders“, but Callisto tries to stop her from becoming too vengeful. She asks Marrow to remember a time where she believed in something. Marrow calls up a memory of herself as a child staring at the most beautiful person she ever saw, the captive Angel. Callisto orders Marrow to leave and find the X-Men, since Zero Tolerance is to big an enemy to fight alone. (Marrow is next seen in X-Men 67).

On yet another part of the strange world, Joseph and Rogue wake up lying in a field together. Rogue tries to fly into the air, but hits an invisible barrier. Joseph uses his powers to try to see what the barrier was, and ends up disrupting the illusion of the world. They find themselves in a cave, along with a mutant called Landscape, who created the illusionary world. He is also a mercenary working together with Spat and Grovel. for someone.

Elsewhere Gambit is tied up by Spat and Grovel when the cave appears. Spat is very angry at Gambit for something that happened in the past. Spat (who looks like a young girl) once took a blast meant for Remy, not knowing that it would turn out to have slow-working de-aging effects.

Meanwhile, in a small town in South Carolina, Maggott arrives to question the residents about Joseph’s whereabouts. Some men threaten him, and he unleashes Eany and Meany, his two super-slugs, on them.
Back in the caves, Joseph and Rogue are interrogating Landscape when they run into Gambit and his captors. Gambit breaks through his bonds, but thinks about going with the bounty hunters willingly to face what he did in his past. They wonder where the other X-Men are, but soon run into the original Nanny (Magneto’s robot from Uncanny X-Men 112-113), who is accompanied by a group of cyborg animals at her command.
