Owner's Description

“Hours & Minutes” Cecilia Reyes rises from her bed in the X-mansion, determined to use this day to get her life back as a doctor in an inner city New York hospital. Storm thanks her for having saved Cyclops life (in X-Men Vol.II #70) and tells her that she is always welcome with the X-Men. Wolverine tries his best to dissuade Cecilia, but when she insists on leaving, he offers to take her to New York on his motorcycle. Cecilia goes into the hospital and manages to convince the head doctor to give her a chance. Everyone now knows she is a mutant, but if she lasts awhile with no problems, she can stay.

Meanwhile, on a jetliner headed for Anchorage, Alaska, Cyclops and Phoenix are having a conversation, when Jean is suddenly struck with a telepathic sense that there is something dangerous on board.

Back at the hospital, Cecilia is fast at work in surgery, but is pulled from an operation at the last minute. The head doctor tells her the reason is because the family of the patient doesn’t want a mutant treating him. She discovers that another doctor among her operation team was the one who told the family about her being a mutant. Later though Cecilia gets to perform emergency surgery on a gun-shot victim, since there was no time for anyone to reveal her status to the family. At noon most doctors go to lunch. When Cecilia sits down at a table, everyone makes mutant jokes and they all leave. Later, Cecilia is in her office, when an old friend comes in and makes it known that not everyone hates her. Then a nurse storms in, saying that a certain doctor needs Cecilia’s help with a patient. Since that doctor already hated her before she was outed as a mutant, Cecilia wonders why she is summoned, but happy to have one more chance to prove herself. The patient turns out to be Pyro, who has been shot. Usually the bullets would melt before hitting him, but he is suffering from the Legacy Virus, making his control over flames sometimes unstable. He is surrounded by flames, but needs to be operated on. Cecilia is able to operate using her force-field, but it still causes her pain. The police come to arrest Pyro, but Cecilia insists that he stay at the hospital to recover.

At the Lower West Side waterfront a set of crates arrive from Antarctica, and one of them houses a monster (actually Sauron, see Uncanny X-Men 353).

Cecilia spends hours treating more patients at the hospital, and suddenly Daredevil comes in through a window. He has an infected gunshot wound, and asks her to help him. She makes him take off his costume, since it is too risky to treat him with his mask on. At any time some staff could enter the room and then Cecilia would be fired. Daredevil is forced to trust her with his secret identity exposed. After she finishes cleaning the wound, Daredevil tries to tell her that she shouldn’t waste her power, saying she could save even more lives as a hero than as a doctor. He leaves, and much later Cecilia checks up on Pyro. He asks her to loosen his straps, claiming they hurt, but when she does, he escapes and crashes out the window. Cecilia tells the head doctor that Pyro escaped, and as expected, she is fired. She goes back to the X-mansion, disappointed, but is welcomed back by the X-Men.
