Owner's Description

“In Sin Air” Phoenix is attempting to locate Professor X from the jetliner to Anchorage by mentally scanning for him throughout the country, without any success. Before she can redouble her efforts, some turbulence on the plane distracts her from her task. Cyclops wakes up from his nap beside her and assumes a problem with the plane, but Jean senses it is someone on the plane that’s causing it.

Unbeknownst to all onboard, a cloaked, unidentified craft on the outside is about dock with the plane. The turbulence suddenly stops, and Jean checks on Scott (who is still recovering from his ordeal in X-Men #70). They communicate telepathically, and Jean offers to damper Scott’s pain receptors to ease his discomfort, but Scott turns her down as he would rather she concentrate her energies on locating the Professor. Suddenly, one of the passengers begins panicking and claims a powerful female mind is in his head. Scott and Jean are alarmed by this, but do not act to protect their civilian identities.

Meanwhile, Archangel pays a visit to the mansion, where the X-Men are currently clearing up the mess from the recent emergency (in X-Men #70), hoping to say his goodbyes to Scott and Jean, but he missed them. Wolverine rebukes him for not helping the team out the past couple of days, and Maggott and Joseph pass unflattering comments on him. Archangel feels the team is picking on him but Wolverine berates him further for not being a team player. Marrow drops by to express her appreciation for Warren, and he soon leaves in a huff. Logan then demands Marrow either helps out or stays out of their way.

The unidentified craft has docked with the plane, as Scott feels more pain in his chest. Jean gets up to get him some painkillers, and walks past the man who was raving earlier. She wonders if he was referring to her then, but soon AIM agents burst out of the plane’s door from the docked craft, seeking someone on board. They confront a Dr. Sibelius about an entity, but he smugly tells them an explosion would result if they tried to remove it while they were in the air. One of the agents then zaps him with his gun, while another threatens Scott with a gun for talking (to Staci). A wave of energy then hits them all and causes each of them to relive the worst moments of their lives, but Jean tracks the this energy down to its source in the cargo hold.

Back in the mansion, Maggott arrives with the mail. There is a letter to Cannonball, and he immediately takes it from Maggott and flies off elsewhere to read it. It is from Tabitha (Meltdown, his girlfriend in X-Force), who is writing to him hoping he could meet up with his ex-team in Texas, which he decides to.
In the plane, Jean has reached the cargo hold and finds the entity AIM is seeking. It is a being from another dimension, and fills Jean’s head with images of it being used as a test subject. It is all too alien and painful to Jean to bear, and she barely manages to hide herself before the AIM agents reach the hold. Once they arrive, they attempt to dismantle the bomb attached to the crate the entity is in, but they do not have the necessary tools. Since the bomb will only detonate at altitude, they decide to land the jetliner. The entity then releases a wave of energy from her container, severely wounding the doctors and agents. The AIM craft has de-docked from the plane in preparation for its landing, but the entity releases another wave of psionic energy, resulting in the pilots losing temporary control of the plane. One of its wings hits the departing AIM craft, sending it crashing into the ground.

The passengers are beginning to panic, and Scott decides he has to act. He pounces on one AIM agent and sends him into a door, knocking him out. Another then appears and is about to shoot Scott when a crew member clocks him with a fire extinguisher. Jean is discovered by another AIM member in the cargo hold, but she punches his lights out. Scott then informs Jean the people on board are panicking, including the pilot, and it’s affecting his ability to fly the plane. Jean requests the Entity to help her instill calm in the passengers as she alone cannot influence so many minds. She holds the explosive mechanism in check with her powers and releases Entity, who proceeds to calm the panicked people on board.

Once the plane lands, Jean questions a costumed guard where they are brining Entity, but he replies that it was classified information. They load the container into a lorry with the Department H insignia and Scott and Jean are concerned as they didn’t realize it was back in operation. They then meet up with Staci and Chris, their would-be neighbors in Ptarmigan Creek, as the raving man is carried away from the scene.
