Owner's Description

“Prehistory” Rogue is running through the woods outside the X-mansion, upset with Storm for thinking she had drained Wolverine’s life. Farther away, the X-Men are busy fighting the real culprit, Sauron. As they battle him, his story is revealed. Kazar had thought Sauron dead after a recent battle in the Savage Land, but Sauron had survived, and fled in his human form Karl Lykos. When Kazar prepared to move to New York, Sauron stowed away in some cargo crates, and escaped into the streets of the city. He was drawn to the X-Men because he could sense their mutant power, having fought them before. He had drained Wolverine’s energy in order to fully make the transformation to his pterodactyl-like form. In the battle, Iceman and Storm distract him and knock away his gun, which Maggott takes care of using the slugs Eany and Meany. However, Sauron uses his gaze to make Iceman think Jubilee and the others are monsters, and he ends up freezing himself into an ice block hiding from the monsters. Maggott jumps on Sauron’s back, who starts flying high up where the air is thin.

Meanwhile, in deep space, Bishop wonders aloud to Deathbird about some contradictions within her story. Why wasn’t she able to save the other X-Men, when she could teleport Bishop and herself ? How can she say he is completely paralyzed and continue to say he is recovering ? Bishop realizes that he might not been injured at all, but only be held in stasis by the medilabs instruments. Suddenly their ship is attacked, and starts to crash towards a planet.

Back at the mansion, Rogue comes upon Joseph, who is lying collapsed on the ground inside. Rogue is forced to give him mouth-to-mouth, risking her power. She manages to hold it back for the most part, and he revives, but not before Marrow observes the scene. She misinterprets thinking that Rogue caused the situation with a kiss, but does not find this disturbing. Actually she thinks that she and Rogue are very much alike. Rogue runs out; she knows that she had to save Joseph, but what if Marrow’s words are truer than she wants to believe.

Outside at the battle, Sauron throws Maggott to the ground, but the slugs manage to hollow the ground to cushion his fall. Jubilee is the last one standing, and though she manages to hold her own for a short time, she is knocked out too.

In a cabin in Alaska, Cyclops practices focusing his eye-beams, as he has had trouble with his powers since almost dying from a nano-tech bomb (see X-Men 70). Jean comes in, and surprises Cyclops by wearing the green Phoenix costume.

As Sauron tries to choose who to drain next, Wolverine wakes up and pops out his claws. He attacks, and with the help of a revived Jubilee, they defeat Sauron by surprising him.

By now, Rogue is in Salem Center, where she enters a cab, determined to go to the Agee Institute in New York, where it seems a doctor has found a way to remove mutant powers.

This comic is currently the only NM/M certified copy in existence.
