Owner's Description

“Lost in Space” Bishop and Deathbird find themselves stranded on an alien planet. Bishop searches for Deathbird and when he finds her, some aliens attack them. After they defeat the few aliens, another off-worlder named Karel picks them up, telling them the aliens that attacked them are called Ursaa and would soon be back in bigger numbers. When the trio reaches Karel’s home, they find it destroyed by beings Karel calls the Chnitt. He says they are lucky they weren’t there when the Chnitt attacked.

Karel says he knows a friend who can help them and they soon meet a blind man named Tu. The trio can rest at Tu’s for the night. Karel then makes Bishop and Deathbird an offer. He claims he comes from a world that has been taken over by the Chnitt and has come in search of a weapon powerful enough the destroy the Chnitt. Karel says if they can reach the city of Kuth, across the dangerous “flats,” they can get off planet using a warp gate. Bishop decides to go with Karel, for it is probably his only way home.

Back in Ptarmigan Creek, Alaska, the original X-Men are packing up and preparing to return to the mansion. Warren expresses his concern at Jean returning too soon just as Scott walks in. He says that because of the recent troubles in the neighborhood, the buyers for the house have backed out and he will have to stay a little longer. Just then, some kids throw a brick through the window. Jean starts to mutter something about Betsy as an invisible psi bolt strikes her, rendering her catatonic.

During the night, Deathbird is attacked by a Chnitt, which turns out to be a large, spider-like creature. Deathbird easily defeats the Chnitt and Karel says she fights strong, for a woman. Karel believes that Tu betrayed them to the Chnitt. The trio starts across the flats and are soon attacked by many giant tentacles, but through some hotshot piloting, they escape.

When the trio reaches Kuth, Karel reveals his mighty weapon to be a small device that eats all of the metal it comes in contact with. As they approach the warp gate, the Chnitt mothership descends upon the city. Bishop wishes to help the people of Kuth from the attack and takes one of Karel’s nullifier charges. Deathbird says that if Bishop does not make it to the warp gate before it closes, she will leave without him.

Deathbird and Karel fight their way to the warp gate as Bishop runs to get a shot at the mothership. The mothership is destroyed by the nullifier charge and Bishop arrives at the warp gate just as Karel is teleporting. The gate crumbles before Bishop, who assumes he is now alone. Deathbird comes out from the shadows; she did not abandon him after all.

Jean is hit by the effects of the Psi-War in X-Men (2nd series) #77-78. The battle between Psylocke and the Shadow King caused a temporary worldwide loss of telepathic powers.
