Owner's Description

“Power Play” Rogue is dreaming about being able to touch another person when a nurse awakens her. The nurse tells Rogue that Dr. Agee is ready to perform the surgery that will “cure” her of her mutant power. <br /><br />In Anchorage, the retired member of Alpha Flight, Michael Twoyoungmen, aka Shaman, is examining Jean. He grants Jean a clean bill of health. Although Jean’s body may be healthy, she tells Scott she has no mental powers, even their psychic rapport is broken. <br /><br />In a hidden observation booth that overlooks the operating room in the Agee Institute, Special Agent Peter Henry Gyrich expresses his disapproval of the government funding Agee’s studies and the effectiveness of his work. Senator Brickman and his wife defend Agee; however, Brickman is also skeptical because Agee’s “successful” operation on his sister has no witnesses. Agee claims his sister is temporarily indisposed. Agee then turns their attention the operation room and presents his patient as the outlaw mutant Rogue. The observers are surprised Agee obtained such a specimen. <br /><br />In the operation room, the nurse asks Rogue, a.k.a Ms. Smith, if she is having any second thoughts. Rogue is not sure what she wants. Dr. Agee comes in and calms Rogue’s nerves. Back in the observation booth, Mrs. Brickman leaves saying she can’t watch this. The nurse comes in with the syringe Dr. Agee needs, but when her hands come from behind her back, she is holding a machine gun and begins firing at Agee. Rogue blocks the bullets and the nurse runs away. Rogue gives her powers one last go as she chases the nurse. After falling back from a barrage of bullets, the nurse reveals herself to be Mystique.<br /> <br />Back in Anchorage, Jean is still depressed over her lost powers; even Cyclops’s words cannot cheer her up. <br /><br />In Mystique’s apartment, Mystique reveals that she has been trying to infiltrate the Agee Institute for months and was disappointed when she found the subject to be Rogue. Rogue and Mystique argue over what’s best for Rogue. Rogue says that it’s her life and Mystique argues that she still considers herself as Rogue’s mother and she doesn’t know what’s best for her. Mystique claims that Dr. Agee’s work is based on Forge’s technology and his goal is the complete eradication of mutantkind. Mystique changes in to Gambit’s form and infuriates Rogue so much that she knocks Mystique to the ground. Rogue decides the only way to be sure Mystique isn’t lying is to touch her. <br /><br />At the Mutopia building, Agee fights for the ownership of his technology while Gyrich says it all belongs to the government. Mrs. Brickman walks in to the lobby of Mutopia and gets in the elevator. Mrs. Brickman transforms back into Rogue, but Mystique’s personality takes control. Rogue gets off the elevator and begins doing damage. Agee and Gyrich are alerted to her presence and they prepare the machine. After Rogue takes out all of the guards, Gyrich is about to escape when Mystique knocks him down. Rogue touches Dr. Agee to learn the truth. She is shocked to see what happened when he tried to cure his sister, but the surprise is even bigger, as now the device really is functional. Much as she wants to undergo treatment, Rogue refuses, as she knows the machine is too dangerous and should not fall into the wrong hands. If she had her powers removed, she could not make sure that the device is destroyed. <br /><br />In Ptarmigan Creek, Jean is feeling a little bit better, but her mental powers are still gone. Now the couple has to remain retired, at least until she has recovered, if she ever will. <br /><br />Rogue returns to the mansion to find out Wolverine knew about the cure all along. He says it’s a lesson she had to learn by herself. <br /><br /><br /><br />
