Owner's Description

“Children of the Atom- Part 1” A group of mutants, including The Grey King, Crux, Chaos, Landslide, Rapture, and Mercury, gather together and call themselves the X-Men. The “X-Men” attack a cruise ship that Shadowcat, Nightcrawler, and Colossus are on. They capture Kitty. They tie Kitty up and it turns out Xavier is actually their leader. The real X-Men meet with Valerie Cooper who tells them they’re being framed. Colossus and Nightcrawler come home and are met at gunpoint. Kitty is released and finds something seriously wrong with the Professor. The person with the gun turns out to be Cecilia Reyes who shows Nightcrawler and Colossus the blackbird which was pulled out from the pond. After Kitty saves the Professor, he has her locked up again. The “X-Men” rip apart the X-Men’s jet and they have a midair battle. Colossus and Nightcrawler save them just in time in the newly repaired blackbird. <br /><br />Between Uncanny X-Men #359 / X-Men (2nd series) #79 and this story many X-Men left the team off panel. Cecilia Reyes, as she explains, set up a practice in Salem Center, Maggot leaves for the Massachusetts Academy to get some training with Generation X, Cannonball visits his mother in Kentucky, who has to undergo some medical treatment, and the Beast resigned from active duty to concentrate on his research for a Legacy cure.<br /> <br />It will be revealed in later issues, that when Bastion’s Zero Tolerance troops stripped the mansion of all it’s equipment, their nanotechnology interacted with Cerebro. The mutant locating device gained some form of sentience, and probably using the Shi’Ar technology, it holographically disguised as Xavier and created a new group of X-Men as well. They seem to be mixed of various aspects of the many mutant entries in Cerebro’s files. Based on appearance and powers the templates seem to be :<br />Chaos – Cyclops & Havok<br />Crux – Iceman, Jubilee & Sunfire<br />Grey King – Phoenix, Magneto & Leech<br />Landslide – Beast & Sabretooth<br />Mercury – Colossus & Wolverine<br />Rapture – Angel, Mystique & Morlock Healer <br /><br />This issue marks the return of Nightcrawler, Colossus, and Shadowcat to the X-Men after the disbanding of Excalibur. This issue also marks the 35th anniversary of the Uncanny X-Men.<br /><br />The story is continued in X-Men (2nd series) #80. <br /><br />
