Owner's Description

“Like a Phoenix, From the Ashes!”. 1st appearance of Jean Grey as the Phoenix. The X-Men’s shuttle crashes into Jamaica Bay. Jean rises out of the water with immense power calling herself Phoenix, but then passes out. At the hospital, Jean’s doctor says she’ll be all right but needs to rest. Xavier tells the X-Men to go on an enforced vacation. They go to Banshee’s newly inherited Cassidy Keep in Ireland. Once there, they fall through a trap door and are confronted by Black Tom Cassidy and the Juggernaut. It would later turn out that the real Jean Grey was put into a cocoon at the bottom of Jamaica Bay by the cosmic entity known as the Phoenix to heal from her radiation poisoning. The Phoenix assumed Jean’s identity. The explosion of human emotions Phoenix suddenly felt when she became Jean Grey overwhelmed her into believing she was Jean Grey.<br /><br />This sweet 9.6 was bought from Metropolis Comics during the NY National show in November 2006. It is the second highest graded behind six 9.8’s and has white pages.<br /><br />
