Owner's Description

"The Warlock Wakes". As we have come to see, not all mutants use their powers for the betterment of mankind. Some mutants use their gifts for greed others for power. One such mutant is the Warlock. With incredible mental powers such as hypnosis and telekinesis, the Warlock (claiming to be the legendary Merlin) plans to conquer the world with fancy machinery he will use to revert humanity back to the days of Camelot. He attacks the X-men, capturing Marvel Girl who he wants as his queen and Xavier whom he sees as his mental rival. He brings them to his secret underground base which is some strange combination of medieval castle and modern science and unsuccessfully attempts to deactivate the Professor’s powers. Failing to do so, Xavier alerts the other X-men to their location. But, Jean is under the Warlock’s thrall so they dare not attack for fear of hurting her. Warlock, overconfident in his power and the abilities of his men, challenges the X-men to a duel for which his men lose very quickly. Realizing he has lost, the Warlock takes Jean and flees deeper into his castle, setting traps for is foes as he goes. Seeing her friends in danger snaps Marvel Girl out of her trance and, with her help, the X-men defeat the Warlock. On their way home, Scott and Jean ponder their unresolved emotions for each other while Xavier ponders the imminent danger of Factor Three.<br /><br />This crisp NM copy comes from the Heritage 2007 May Signature Vintage Comics & Comics Art Auction.
