Owner's Description

"Mekano Lives". With the aid of Cerebro, the X-Men are able to locate the hidden base of Factor Three, the mysterious group that has kidnapped Professor X, in the Alps of central Europe. However, there is one problem. They don’t have the money to get there. The X-Jet is low on fuel, Warren’s parents are away and they can’t get a loan because everything belongs to Xavier. Their only choice is to split up and raise the money on their own. Some try to get construction jobs but fail since they don’t belong to a union. Other try to use their powers in public shows, hoping that would get them the funds they need. During this time, they meet troubled student Tom Regal, an odd gent who unknown to the X-Men has stolen an experimental suit that grants him advanced strength and agility. Calling himself Mekano, he attacks a newly opened library where the X-Men happen to be performing. The X-Men use their powers to fight Mekano but when the police arrive, they mistake the mutants for villains and now they must avoid the police while stopping Mekano. Nearly falling to his death, Mekano is saved by Marvel Girl and Tom comes to his senses. The X-men discover that Tom is actually the son of the owner of the library and merely wanted to get his father’s attention. Having saved his son, Tom’s father dismisses any charges the police would pursue and grants them a reward. They ask for nothing but a loan to buy airfare to Europe. He agrees and as the X-Men board the plane, they do not realize they are being watched by Factor Three.

It was this sort of ordinary problem (lack of money) that often distinguished Silver Age Marvel heroes from their DC counterparts. This made Marvel’s characters relatable and popular.

This NM copy is from the exquisite White Mountain Pedigree and has white pages.
