Owner's Description

"The Sinister Shadow of Doomsday". The origins of the X-Men begin. Fleeing the mountain base of Factor Three before it explodes, the X-men return home to find that Cerebro has intercepted a radio message the villainous group transmitted, allowing the X-Men to locate their troop locations and intercept them. Cyclops and Iceman head to the American base to warn the soldiers but their message is ignored, prompting them to destroy the missiles before Factor Three can hijack them. Marvel Girl, Beast and Angel approach the heavily guarded castle holding the meeting of the communist leaders and run into the Blob and the Vanisher amongst other Factor Three operatives. They defeat the villains but are themselves captured by the castle guards who mistake them for assassins. Within the new hidden Factor Three base, the arrogant Mutant Master punishes and threatens his second in command the Changeling, stirring doubt in the young mutant. The captive Xavier fuels the Changelings doubts by pointing out the flaws in his leader’s plans. Will the Changeling change sides? Will Marvel Girl and her teammates escape their cell in time to find the bomb hidden in the castle? Read the next issue to find out. This issue also features the beginning of the never-before told story of how the X-Men were formed. In a small town somewhere in the US, a young Scott Summers saves some town folks from being crushed by a falling crate by destroying it with an eyebeam. However, the same folk turn on him out of fear and try to hunt him down. He escapes but not before this incident and others like it cause FBI agent Fred Duncan to start an investigation of this so called “mutant menace”. Hearing of this investigation, Charles Xavier is spurred to action. He visits agent Duncan in Washington and convinces the agent to work together with him to find these mutants and recruit them. This was unusual because most "origin" stories are revealed in the first or second issue. Here, Marvel decided to wait until issue #38.
