"The Fateful Finale". On the brink of starting WWIII, the X-Men make their move to stop Factor Three’s villainous plan. Scott and Bobby inside the American missile base locate the Factor Three agents who were about to release a toxic nerve gas, and secure them with Unus and Mastermind unable to do anything for fear of alerting the base security. Marvel Girl, Beast and the Angel escape their prison cell inside the Eastern European castle and, after a brief tussle with the Blob, secure the bomb that was meant to destroy the castle and the leaders meeting in there. Watching from his hidden base, the Mutant Master curses the X-Men’s accomplishments and realizes he will be caught if he stays. Suddenly, a now freed Xavier appears, accuses the Mutant Master of betraying Factor Three and leads a newly recovered Banshee against MM and his robot army. They destroy the robots as well as the Mutant Masters hovering platform, revealing a Sirian alien inside. The Sirian never wanted to help mutant kind it just wanted to conquer the Earth. The Sirian commits suicide and a second Xavier arrives and the first Xavier reverts into the Changeling, no longer a member of Factor Three. The X-men return home and are rewarded with new individual costumes.

Continuing the origin of the X-Men, we find Scott Summers fleeing an angry mob who had witnessed his power. Agent Duncan and Xavier discover Scott was raised in an orphanage and has an optometrist who noticed the boy had a strange glow to his eyes and only glasses with ruby quartz chips relieved the young mutants frequent headaches. Meanwhile, Scott is living a hard desperate life on the run. He is robbed, chased by the cops, starved and tired. Hiding in an isolated shack in the woods, he is greeted by a man who introduces himself as a mutant.

This NM copy was purchased off of ComicLink and has white pages.
