Owner's Description

Yogi Bear started out as second fiddle in 1958, co-staring in the Huckleberry Hound Show. By January, 1961, his acting abilities earned him top billing in his new show. He continued to only star in one of the three shorts that made up the half hour show, but at least now he had top billing. He brought on board two new faces to his show: Yakki Doodle (and Chopper) and Snagglepuss.

Yogi Bear's first comic was Four Color #1067, issued December 1959 This was followed by another 41 issues in the Dell / Gold Key/ Whitman series. Several interesting items exist from Huck and Yogi in the very early 1960s, including hardover B&W comics titled "Whitman Comic Books," treasury sized editions titled "Golden Picture Story Books," as well as a much scarcer think newstand B&W comic from Dell titled Huck and Yogi Jamboree. Of couse, best of all are their Kite Fun Books.

Yogi was awarded star billing in the 1962 dated Kite Fun Book, distibuted in the spring of 1962 to warn his young fans not to fly their kites around electric wires. Don Christensen and Kellog Adams are noted as associated with the production of this book.

A total of four variants of this book have been identified. The two that CGC has graded copy(s) of are Southern California Edison and Florida Power and Light. No copies with a blank indicia box or from Pacific Gas and Electric have been graded yet.

This CGC 6.5 (Fine plus) copy with cream to off-white pages is the only graded copy from Florida Power and Light to date.
