Owner's Description

Porky Pig first appeared in I Haven't Got a Hat on March 2, 1935, the first of 152 appearances in the golden age of American animation. When TV replaced the movies as the place to be for an animated character, Porky Pig moved onto television with a string of shoes which include The Porky Pig Show (1964 to 1967) and Porky Pig and Friends (1971.)<br /><br />Porky Pig first appeared in comics in Looney Tunes #1 (1941.) He continued to be a regular in that series, as well as getting his own series. In all, over 400 issues of Looney Tunes were issued to date by Dell, Gold Key, Whitman and DC. He also had about 165 issues of "Porky Pig Comics." <br /><br />The Porky Pig Kite Fun Book is dated 1960, and was prepared in late 1960 for release to schools in the spring of 1951. One of the file copies sold by Heritage a few years ago had a Western library stamp dated 11/19/1968. Don Christensen and Kellog Adams are noted as associated with the production of this book.<br /><br />Three variants of this book have been identified. Copies with a blank indicia box and Pacific Gas and Electric have been certified. No copies have been certified yet from the other identified utility, Southern California Edison.<br /><br />This CGC 9.5(near mint) copy with off-white to white pages is the only certified copy of the blank indicia box variant as of 6/24/2010. <br /><br />The comic itself consist of: <br />(Cover) as shown <br />(pg 2-10) Porky Pig Kite Safety Story.
