Owner's Description

Tweety Bird started a solo career in 1942 in the short cartoon A Tale of Two Kitties. His career continued with addional cartoons in 1944 and 1945, each time sharing with a different co-star. In 1947, his co-star was Sylvester in "Tweety Pie." The two worked well together, going on to make about 40 cartoon shorts through the 1950s.

Once this pair got together, the synergy of their work together propelled them also into comic books. Their first staring apperance in comics was in Four Color #406, June 1952. This was followed by two other Four color books, then Dell #4-37 and Gold Key/Whitman #1-121. A total of 158 issues running amazingly from 1952 to 1984. They also stared in several other giveaways and special isssues other than their most famous, the 1967 Tweety and Sylvester Kite Fun Book.

This copy was distributed by Pacific Gas and Electric. Currently, only Pacific Gas and Electric and Southern California Edison editions have been certified by CGC. Also identified, but with no copies certified yet is a Detroit Edison edition. Another strange item out there on ebay is copies of a poster matching the back cover of the SCE edition. They were distributed by Duke Power. I am left wonder if Duke Power ordered Kite Fun Books from Reddy Kilowatt, Inc, or just the posters.

One of the copies from the random house files had a Western library received stamp dated 1/10/1966, indicating that this book copyright 1965 was distributed to schools in the spring of 1966. Don Christensen and Kellog Adams are noted as associated with the production of this book. Note that the SCE edition has six kite flying rules on the back cover while all other editions have eight.

Population Statistics (Pacific Gas and Electric): There are 2 copies in graded, of which this CGC 6.0 with off-white pages is the finer. (6/3/2010)

The comic itself consist of:
(Cover) As shown
(pg 2-7) Tweety and Sylvester Kite Safety Story
(pg 8-9) How to build kites featuring Reddy Kilowatt
(pg 10) Tweety and Sylvester Story continued
(pg. 11) Sylvester's Space Kite Plan
(pg. 12) How Man Triangles?
(pg 13) Sylvester's Riddles
(pg 14) Granny's Mystery Quilt
(pg 15) Last page Pink Tweety and Sylvester Safety Story
(pg 16/back cover) Eight Kite Flying Safety Tips.
