Set Description
Right about the time I was getting back into collecting a friend and colleague of mine, who I never knew read comics, was at my house and upon seeing a stack of books remarked that the Dark Empire series was awesome. That was all he said, no further comments or discussion. Later I looked through my stuff and discovered that I had a few Dark Empire comics, but couldn’t remember reading them. I found that I really loved the Cam Kennedy art and the Dave Dorman covers and decided to try and complete a set in high grade. I’ve bought several of these slabbed from the board and eBay. I’ve also bought far, far too many “NM” copies on eBay and from various shops in an attempt to fill gaps with my own submissions.
My favorite comic in this set is Dark Empire #2 gold foil: Luke has turned to the dark side, Mark Hamill’s signature placement is perfect, the Dorman cover is awesome and the gold looks great in contrast to the solid black back.
When I first stumbled into graded slabs I didn't care for the yellow label. Overnight a switch flipped or something and I went SS crazy. Set includes signatures from Dave Dorman, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Ian McDiarmid, David Prowse, Richard LeParmentier, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, Peter Mayhew, Billy Dee Williams and Jeremy Bulloch.

Additional notes:
Dark Empire #2 and Dark Empire II #5 seem to be the hardest to find in high grade.
Jim Baikie replaces Cam Kennedy on Empire’s End. Cam’s dreamy space vistas are missed.
The card stock covers and production flaws make some of these hard to find in 9.8 or higher. They are pretty durable, but once bumped or bent there is no fixing them.

Dark Empire Gold Edition: These comics, with gold foil etched Star Wars logo on the front cover and solid black back cover, were limited to 5000 sets and sold exclusively by the QVC home shopping television network in March 1993 for $50.00
Dark Empire Platinum Edition: These comics, with platinum foil etched Star Wars logo on the front cover and solid platinum back cover, were limited to 4000 sets and sold exclusively by the QVC home shopping television network in October 1993 for $75.00
Dark Empire II Gold Edition: These comics, with gold foil etched Star Wars logo, feature front cover pin-ups on the back and were limited to 5000 sets.
