Terryz's Bio
HI ALL
I got started on this hobby back in the early 50's when I walked into a local novelty shop and the owner had posted a sign indicating he would pay a few cents extra for certain date pennies and that was all the incentive i Needed to start looking at change. I think this was about 1951. In those days there were still indian head cents, liberty head nickels, and standing liberty Quarters still in circulation. I didn't know much about 50 cent pieces because that was was like a million dollars to a young boy. However there were silver dollars galore. I remember my grand dad saying he didn't really trust paper money that much so he always demanded silver dollars when possible. Living in western WA it was a normal thing to demand hard currency, It was the same in Montana as I recall. Anyway Today I hate to think of all the great date pennies I found and sold to this guy for 4 0r 5 cents extra.
It finally dawned on me that these coin might have a value beyond what this guy was paying and I discover that was so and also discovered coin albums. The rest is history. However there was 30 year hiatus while serving in the USN but I've more than made up for the time loss by going totally nutso and just enjoying this wonderful hobby/Sport.
