Lethal_Collector's Bio
As a kid in the 80's I loved cartoons like GI Joe, Transformers, He-Man and got into comics from a buddy of mine who I would call my brother. We've known each other since we were 9, I even lived with him and his father for a while when my parents got divorced as a teenager. He was the best man at my wedding and in 2006 his father passed away. The times we had as kids, and still to this day are centered around video games, comics, women and sports (not in that order :p). In high school and college I competed in Track and Field doing Long Jump Triple Jump and my favorite event, High Jump (also did discus too!). I'm most proud of my accomplishments in High Jump as I got a small scholarship for it and got a personal best of 2 meters; 6 ft. 6 3/4 inches. My competitive nature seems to follow me in whatever I do, as in collecting comics. I've known about CGC since 2001 and I'd have to say that CGC is my favorite company. I truly believe in their product/service as it has (along with media events through the years) revitalized the comics industry. They've set a stringent standard of success, while at the same time built a credible and value reputation for spotting restoration in comics. Something my buddy experienced a few years ago when his X-Men #1 that he got Stan Lee to sign came back with a Yellow SS PLOD. I recently helped him sell that comic on these CGC boards thankfully. In 2010, I decided to stop collecting a hodge-podge of collectibles; sports cards, transformers, lego star wars, etc and focus solely on comic books. After that point, I've really started to see my collection take shape with my favorite key issues and see the value grow over time. I had enough success submitting and selling comics, that I could spend a chunk of change and buy a 1st print + variant run of The Walking Dead from a fellow board member. While at the same time, take the #1 spot for the Batman: Hush registry set one day shy of 3 months. I did also buy an Amazing Fantasy #15 from a boardie, which was my holy grail. But in 2012, after a lot of thought, I decided to sell my entire comic book collection to pay off my student loans. It was a tough decision, but definitely worth it. In August, 2013 we moved into a bigger house (since I didn’t have any more student loans, or debt of any kind) and a year later we had our first son; Lucas. Recently, I decided to get back into collecting comic books and my first priority was to buy an Amazing Fantasy #15 again, which I did. I also got my core Venom books back (ASM 298,299, 300 and 316 – fav cover). So I’m pretty happy with that. Maybe in the next year or two I can buy an Incredible Hulk #181 and X-Men #1 and a few other books that I sold in 2012. Time will tell!
