Refocusing back to my original 'adult onset coin collecting' interest, namely Japanese coins.
I was stationed in Japan twice and started off collecting pocket change. This morphed into a Dansco Japan Type set album, and then onto better slabbed specimens. The type set now is chock full of date sets. Now I'm expanding more into pre-Meiji coinage as well which is not reflected in my NGC sets unfortunately as they are not certified.
Since my adult hobby started I've gone through shifting interests, starting with a 'one from every country' concept to more focused areas. My current mishmash of a collection reflects some of this given I found picking just one coin difficult at times.
My top award winning set started as a complete fail of the "One From Every Country". Not only did I not just get one, I ended up doing the whole set (minus provas and gold proofs) for Albania. Specifically the coins from the time of King Zog's influence.
Ultimately the set reached the point of merely shooting for hunting down tiny grade upgrades and it was time to let it go. Most of the coins were sold at NYINC in 2023.
The set was good enough for a 'top classic set' award in addition to being top in category for 8 years. But, it was time to let go.
Other than Japanese coins I am mostly limiting myself to medals of various themes and designs. For now. Nothing is constant other than change. Even pocket change.
