Owner's Description
My original intent with this set was just to collect the Doomsday storyline (first printings) as well as the Platinum Editions and Adventures of Superman 500 (all variants). Of those books, this was the toughest for me to find at the time. It seemed like there was a dry spell for a while. I watched eBay and it just didn't seem like this was ever going to pop up for sale.
When I finally did find this book on eBay it was a Universal 9.8 copy that cost me $60.00. It was at that point that I added pictures and really started working on the descriptions in my set. That Universal copy stayed in my set until it reached 100% completion. It was at the point that I only needed two more 9.8’s that I started replacing some of my existing Universal 9.8’s with Signature Series 9.8’s as they became available. This is one of those books and it is nicely signed by Jerry Ordway! I had this book reholdered in February 2021.
I think it is unfortunate that the image of Superman seems to get lost against all of the green in the background of this cover. The reason I say unfortunate is because if you take a moment to actually not get lost in the green background and look at Superman, the way he is drawn here is absolutely fantastic. I think this version of Superman's musculature, haircut, face, everything, should be the model for all Superman books. It also doesn't help that the Platinum and Bagged versions of this book can make people look right past this edition. I also think it would have been nicer if they had made the image of Superman and Pa just a little bit bigger over the green.
Still a very beautiful book!
