This is a pretty cool cover! It feels like Superman is watching everyone trying to do good in his absence. My original copy of this book was a Universal 9.8 and I later added this really cool Signature Series 9.8 copy signed by Art Adams in May 2021.
The second picture is of my 1939 wooden Superman doll that it took eight years to find before the days of eBay. It was the last day of SDCC and we were leaving the Convention Center. There was a seller with a very small booth with only one display case. As we walked past, my Wife noticed out of the corner or her eye, two little red feet barely visible on the bottom shelf of the case. The seller wasn't trying very hard to sell it but there it was! After some bargaining, and a little luck that the booth next to him was willing to process a credit card transaction, I walked away with this figure carefully packed in a box from the exhibit hall straight to our car. It was so much fun finding this guy! I had some very minor restoration done to it by Randy's Toy Shop in Noblesville Indiana to bring it to the condition you see here. The original cape is still attached which was very important to me when we found him.
I paid $79.95 for the Universal 9.8 of this book, and $750.00 for the doll, I mean action figure! Amazingly I picked up this cool Signature Series 9.8 for less that the Universal... only $75.00 on eBay from a seller that had moved on from this set, and was pricing books with opening bids to sell... I was the only bidder on this book! I show both of my copies in my Custom Set!
The second printing of this book was the last book from this entire set that I was able to physically find (in any grade, or raw), and it was about as hard to find as the doll I have included here. Please read about the journey to find the second printing in that slot.
