Owner's Description
"Is this the End of Zula?" So, admission time here - I originally picked this up thinking I didn't have a Red Sonja cover signed by Art Adams. Totally forgetting that I had him sign a Dynamite Entertainment #1 Adams variant years ago. So, now I have this weird cover, with a poor wrap, which I would typically have passed on in my collection. I guess sometimes we just forget. Hey - enough about me - how about Sonja? Sonja's roleplaying as a bottom this month. Art hasn't really gotten into his softer, more Elfquest-like style yet, so Sonja's face is still pointy, and she's got so much 90s hair. I love how they've "updated" the blue swimsuit to make it look sexier, yet the front is laced up tightly - and just a couple years ago, in the Isherwood issues, it was laced kinda loose. This cover does feature solid use of color, with the cool colors in the background the warm colors reserved for our protagonists, making them stand out. You can even tell how unimportant the guys holding Sonja are based on the use of color. I don't know what's with the huge frowny face on Conan though. I gotta say - I'm not happy with the wide-eyed look on Sonja's face nor the resigned posture. She's the badass of badasses - draw her like that.
Overall? One of the weirder Red Sonja covers by Marvel - but certainly not the weirdest, nor the worst. And - yes, I might just have purchased it off the spinner rack in 91 for a dollar.
