Back in June 2017 when I won a 9.4 in the Comiclink auction, there WERE no 9.8's on the census and only three 9.6's. I didn't recall seeing a better copy (9.6) come up in the past number of years. It is a black cover, so that makes a 9.8 much harder to attain. Beyond that, there is simply less demand for these Metamorpho or Metal Men issues (sorry if you like or collect those characters, but the numbers seem to confirm my assertion). Only 45 copies are certified - that's it. Interest doesn't seem like it is (or was back in the day) in these matchups.
I mean, it is the start of the Batman team-ups - which would continue until issue#200 - you could think that might mean something...but it doesn't.
Update: August 2021 - One of the 9.6's came up in the Heritage auction. Obviously, I had this book on my radar and had put in a reserve bid on it. I had ranked it as eighth (out of nine) of my most wanted in that auction, so I wasn't going to fight over it. Yes, it was a PC copy, but by this time I had already gone 5 for 5 on the other B&B's in that Heritage auction and I just couldn't bring myself to hit the bid button once my reserve bid had been outdone.
Update: January 2024 – well, there is now a single 9.8 on the CGC Census, but I haven’t seen it. That being said, one of those three 9.6’s came up in the Heritage auction and I won the book – at a much lower price than the one I missed out on previously. Obviously, the appearance of a 9.8 has something to do with that!
