My Comic Shop Purchase July 2018. This issue was a rare one where I initially bought a sub 9.8 copy, picking up a 9.4 through Comiclink in their July 2017 auction for the grand total of $13. I don't recall my thinking at the time, but looking at my reserve bid, I obviously made a mistake and didn't realize when placing the bid that the book was not a 9.8. I've had very, very few bidding mistakes in my collecting history, but this was one of them. But I suppose it could've been worse as I ended up selling that 9.4 for $22.
Anyway...tough get for sure. Only nine copies graded by the CGC in total and only one in 9.8, making this book the SINGLE HIGHEST GRADED copy on the CGC census. Thank you, thank you - I know it's a huge accomplishment to have a 9.8 graded copy of Brave and the Bold #139.
I joke, but a black cover is tricky (and this is a black cover). Still, I'm sure there are other 9.8s in the woodwork somewhere.
This issue features Batman and Hawkman. The cover indicates that they are teaming up for the first time in ten years. They last teamed up in B&B#70 (March 1967), so that assertion is 100% correct, with this issue dated February 1978 (time flies!).
