Owner's Description

Wanted Comics #29 is referenced in Fredric Wertham’s “Seduction of the Innocent” (SOTI) in the text on page 28.

On page 28, Wertham is critiquing the poor standards of a comic code that was enacted by the Association of Comics Magazine Publishers and uses several examples from stories contained in Wanted Comics #29 to underscore his points:

“In a crime comic that came out after the code had been in existence for some time, a representative specimen of this group shows: killing; a policeman knocked out with the usual smart contemptuous wisecrack: 'I can't stick around to explain, copper!"; a man shot in the stomach;” - these examples come for the story "Crime’s Three Musketeers”.

"A woman mugged and then killed with a hammer to get her pocketbook" - this example comes from the story "Wanted James Stewart".

"the up-to-date ending of one murder story: 'Archer Frize didn't die in the electric chair! The state psychiatrists found him to be insane!" – this example comes from the story "Johnny on the Spot".

"detailed instructions on how to hold up a grocery store" - this example comes from the story "Wanted Howard F. Bent Jr."

"and a brutal murder story with the murderer not caught by the law but dying by accident. (In the story murder is called a 'mistake': 'I knew it! They all make mistakes!')" - this example comes from story "He was Born to Hang".
