Owner's Description
In Issue #31, Green Lantern starts abusing his power ring, creating money to pay his bills-isn’t that what thief’s do? Pieface convinces Hal to contact the Guardians of the Universe as to why he's been acting so strangely. The Guardians believe it's the aliens known as the Grolls who are manipulating Hal to try to orchestrate a takeover of Earth.
However, before they can get Hal to do something about it he rushes off and starts offering people their own power rings. When the Grolls arrive on Earth to invade it, they are surprised to find that Green Lantern was bluffing them into action and stops their invasion attempt, driving them from Earth.
This is a rather strange issue, in that 9.8s (3) outnumber 9.6s (1) in the census. Our WP 9.8 comes from the Twin Cities pedigree. The Twin Cities Collection was the product of Gary Dahlberg who spent his life carefully buying, reading and storing comic books away throughout the '60s and '70s, with aspirations to become a cartoonist one day. Sadly, he died in a fire in 2010, but to the astonishment of his family his collection was appraised at more than $1 million by Heritage, who auctioned the books in 2011. Consisting of mainly Marvel and DC, this accumulation has no identifying marks but yielded some of the highest grades of the early Marvel period with considerably high page quality. The collection ultimately brought over $2.4 million at auction.
We acquired it in the 6/4/2012 CL auction.
