Owner's Description

This is it - the only sword & sorcery story in the entire run. And how can you go wrong? I mean, you got Roy Thomas adapting a Robert E. Howard story - like, that's the best combination you can hope for, amirite? Roy really understands Robert's stories & sword and sorcery pacing. Cover work by Gil Kane and interior work with Kane & Chan - Chan may not be the most loved artist, but he sure got Conan right for years; and Claw; he's better than he gets credit for. Now look at this awesome cover! The worm is sweet. The mouth is all viperish, but then it's also got these sexy Cthulu tentacle thingies hanging from his jaw. He's so frigging big that he runs off the background at the spine edge of the image and then he's wrapped back around into the foreground. Great color, excellent detail, ranks right up there with the worm on the cover of Claw 2. Our protagonist looks like he means serious sword business with his legs slightly more than shoulder width apart, his body torqued with a massive windup, and a monster overhead two-handed swing. Yeah - I believe him. I have to say, the bright orange sky in the background and on a diagonal does a lot to imply motion in the image. Combined with the protagonist's body language, it all feels very sword & sorcery. Winding up the image, we have some dead guys in the extreme foreground - giving some in-your-face urgency to the image; some ruins in the background - I don't know that they offer much, but the pattern is nice; and finally an obligatory bikini chick for the protagonist to protect. And really I'm ok with her too.
No word balloons, which is nice right? Like I'm pretty sure ol' wormy isn't particularly loquacious. More a bite, bite, crush kind of person. There is a text box. A really unnecessary text box. But it's yellow, so it isn't not that intrusive. Still, it's dumb.
Overall - yeah totally, you want my 20 cents based on this cover image? Take my money! Give me this story.
