Release of this issue was delayed several months, and initial orders for the book were cancelled, then resolicited in December 2001 for its eventual January 2002 release. Despite the delay, Comichron shows 38,101 orders placed upon its relisting.
The book's delay also earned it some unfortunate attention, given its distinctive cover depicting New York City's Twin Towers, destroyed in the 9/11 terrorist attack before its eventual release. Unlike the even more awkwardly-timed Adventures of Superman #596, there was no recall notice or publisher's statement regarding this issue; the cover is merely an example of the sometimes-uncomfortable intersection of art and real life.
