Owner's Description

"The Doom Patrol" That's it right? This is the penultimate issue of the run? Certainly one nice copy of this book can be worth more than the other 84 books combined, right? Which is part of what makes registry sets no fun at all. Why isn't there some bonus points awarded for completion? Say +10% of your point total for every 20% of the run you have completed. So a completionist could get a bonus of +50% of his own points - that'd be worth something. Add to that bons points for pedigrees (same as signature series, does not stack with signature series) and actually collecting books my be recognized. Anyway - enough with the set destroying points that "key" books get.
The Doom Patrol - yeah - the book X-Men totally ripped off.
Anyway, it's a pretty good cover once you get below the text boxes, and the word balloon (although I love love the way the word Automaton stands out). But we've used an awesome shade of fuchsia, which I can't remember seeing on another DC cover (I'm sure Marvel's crap palette had nothing like it in the 60s), and then there's a great control panel, our antagonist in his South American dictator suit with some weird ray projector, as well as our intrepid heroes with Negative Man getting his ass kicked, and Cliff & Rita to the rescue. Elasti-girl has to be one of my favorite underused characters in all of DC. I have aback splash of her from Ron Randall's run that I adore.
Overall? I think this cover is a win. I know I am influenced today by my love for DP, but I think this cover stands well on its artistic merits and totally would have separated me from my hard earned twelve cents.
