The third of EIGHT books I won in the August 2021 Heritage Auction. This copy is tied with only one other for HIGHEST GRADED on the CGC Census, upgrading a 9.4 I purchased from Greg Reece waaaaay back in May 2016.
Until this book, a Twin Cities pedigree, came up I hadn’t seen a 9.8 come to auction for years. In fact, other than the 9.6 Heritage auctioned off in the summer of 2019, I hadn't seen anything better than my 9.4 (of which there are 13). I don't recall the reason, but I tracked that 9.6 but never placed a bid. I have been prone in the past to intending on bidding on a book, but then forgetting when the auction drew near. This could've been one of those occasions.
At any rate, this copy allowed me to upgrade and leap frog the two CGC 9.6’s currently (as of August 2021) on the census.
This was the most expensive of all the eight B&B’s I won in this auction (as I figured it might be). Someone (I’m sure I know who) bid up the book, but fell far short of my reserve bid. As I was able to watch the auction in real time (as opposed to some recent auctions when I had been busy), I’m glad I wasn’t faced with the choice of going beyond my reserve bid (if need be). I’d like to say I would’ve let the book go had the price gone beyond that level, but I can’t be certain…
