Owner's Description
The Hulk battles the Silver Surfer in Issue #93, which marks the first full Silver Surfer appearance outside the Fantastic Four. This issue also features one of the very best covers of this or any Marvel title, as the artwork is dazzling.
For many years we owned the Pacific Coast copy of this issue, which was only a 9.6, but sold it when we were able to grab this beauty. Our WP 9.8 comes from the Rocky Mountain Collection and is tied for highest graded. The Rocky Mountain Collection was assigned to a large Marvel and DC Silver Age collection originally auctioned by Comiclink in 2008. The Spider-Man, Fantastic Four and X-men runs were first auctioned without pedigree, but due to high collector interest the decision was made by CGC to classify the collection as a pedigree. Subsequently those three runs were retroactively given the Rocky Mountain notation. Hailing from Colorado, the collection numbered around 5,000 books, initially stored in a basement in similar conditions to the Mile High collection. None of the books exhibit identifying marks, but are easily traceable back to Comiclink.
One other comment regarding the Rocky Mountain Collection. I have found for books 1965 or earlier, given a choice, always go with the Pacific Coast Pedigree. However for late 1960s and 1970s books, the Rocky Mountain pedigree is generally the best available. This was not the only time that I sold a Pacific Coast pedigree to buy a Rocky Mountain one.
We acquired the book from the 6/17/21 Pedigree Comics Auction.
