According to the CGC Census Report as of Tuesday, August 22, 2023, out of a total of 435 Universal copies graded, ONLY 17 copies were graded in 9.8 with 0 copies graded higher!
With these statistics in mind, this represents an impressive rarity factor of ONLY 3.91% of the total population!

Published in July of 1974, just four months prior to the release of Incredible Hulk #181, this KEY Bronze Age Daredevil issue features the 1st appearance of one of Wolverine’s main villains—the Silver Samurai!
The New York City landscape cover by Ron Wilson and Frank Giacoia is absolutely stunning! The attention to detail is superb, as the Empire State Building towers behind Daredevil and the Silver Samurai, while they are battling each other on a chopper hovering above the Manhattan skyline! If you look closely in the background, you will even see a few boats travelling along the Hudson River! In addition, the intricate layout of the NYC buildings is life-like, which sets the tone for a highly engaging first appearance battle scene cover!
Speaking of the action, the Silver Samurai is featured balancing himself off a dangling rope ladder ejected from a moving chopper, while swinging his supercharged katana blade directly towards The Man Without Fear!
Properly captioned, MILE-HIGH MAYHEM!, the comic dialogue bubbles read:
YOU DARE CHALLENGE ME HERE—IN THE SKY WHICH IS MY ELEMENT!
TELL YOUR MOURNERS, FOOL, THAT YOU FELL A HELPLESS VICTIM OF—THE SILVER SAMURAI!
On that note, not many characters have attractive badass first appearance covers like the Silver Samurai! The deep reds coupled with the bright yellow Daredevil title, the gray tones of the skyline and the light oranges on the Silver Samurai’s costume truly make this cover POP! Furthermore, Daredevil #111 is not only highly sought-after and cherished by Daredevil fans and collectors; but crosses over to Wolverine and X-Men fans and collectors as well!
Moreover, Kenuichio Harada has been portrayed on the silver screen by actor Will Yun Lee in Marvel Entertainment’s The Wolverine (2013). It will be interesting to see if Marvel decides to bring him back in some capacity (which is more than likely), once they reboot Wolverine and the X-Men into the MCU!
In closing, I purchased this PERFECTLY WRAPPED & CENTERED copy from Comic Link’s Focused Auction in April of 2022! I am super proud to own this immaculate copy and look forward to watching it appreciate each year!
