1st Battle of Thor vs Conan the Barbarian
What If Thor of Asgard Had Met Conan the Barbarian?
Although the issue number isn't mentioned in the story, the divergent point between this universe and Earth-616 is "Thunder Over Troy.". On Earth-616, a young Thor went through the tunnels and ended up participating in the Trojan War. Here, Thor went to the tunnel on the left instead, and ended up in Ancient Hyboria instead.
The story seems to start at the events from Conan the Barbarian #8, with Corinthian soldiers tracking Conan, who set a boulders-falling trap for them. (description by marvel.fandom.com)
This was a popular and often requested What If. It built on the popularity of Issue #13 "What If Conan Walked the Earth Today?" This story sets up a meeting between the God of Thunder and Conan. Thor is transported to Conan's land of Hyboria after wandering some tunnels. He is greeted by Corinthians that are being hunted by Conan who produces an avalanche of rocks onto them and Thor. A battle ensues and Thor shows his strength that Conan has never seen. They make peace and Conan provides Thor with a steel sword as he feels the hammer is not a weapon for this setting.
Thor has forgotten his identity but is compelled to seek out the barbarian god, Crom. The god then tells Thor of his identity and rebukes him for being out of his own time. Crom demands Mjolnir which obeys and he casts the hammer to the bowels of the Earth. Conan and Thor embark on a journey to reclaim his magical hammer. They invade Thoth-Amon, City of Magicians in order to retake Mjolnir.
Thor confronts Thoth-Amon, a dark magician, who has been using Thor's Hammer in a sinister ritual. Thor invokes lightning to defeat the magician. Because Thor is weakened due to his distance from Asgard, the Thunder God succumbs and dies in Conan's arms. Thor's final words are a plea to Conan to bring Mjolnir to the Lord of the Mound and show that Thor has perished so that mortal men might live and as a symbol of the future when gods are more benevolent. Conan wields the hammer and agrees to the quest...
