For some reason I hesitated to look for the second, third, and fourth printings of this book. I would see them fairly frequently on eBay and wasn't that concerned about being able to find them. I focused my efforts on harder to find raw books so I could send them in myself. I had finally submitted a group of 20 books (my largest personal submission yet) from this set to CCS and CGC, which included these three printings, as well as many from my original raw collection. Meanwhile, I kept an eye out and saw that these started to show up a little less frequently but I was really hoping to get 9.8's out of my submissions. I even let one second printing end in auction style for only $66.00 without bidding! Anyways, my three Superman 75's from that submission did not fare well so I was back to work looking for 9.8's. At the same time a Universal 9.8 copy of this book was listed on eBay for $180.00 but I had noticed the seller drop it to $160.00 and then $140.00. I made an offer of $120.00 which I was glad he accepted!
That Universal Label book was the first of the Superman 75 later printings to be added to my collection. Much later, when I had gotten my Base Set to 100 percent completion, and all 9.8’s except for two 9.6’s, I started to slowly upgrade books to Signature Series books if the right opportunity presented itself… this is one of the books that I was fortunate enough to add. I had this book reholdered in February 2021.
I added my Universal 9.8 copy of the Superman: World Without A Superman TPB in the second image slot. I won this book in a super stressful My Comic Shop auction in April 2022 for $435.00. At the time, I didn't realize that bidding continued if someone else bid within the last three minutes of the auction end, adding an additional three minutes! I tried to walk away several times but man I thought this book was a beauty (and it is). I'm happy the other bidder/s finally dropped out... the price stung for awhile but that has since worn off. This is one of only two Universal 9.8's in the census, the only other 9.8 aside from those two is a Qualified 9.8. Now that I've created a Custom Set this TPB also has it's own slot! I left the front image here because I think it complements this book well... one image of Superman's cape blowing in the wind and another of Lois using it to dry her tears! Both really sad!
Note - In December 2022 I submitted a copy of the World Without a Superman TPB for grading and in January 2023 it became the third 9.8 copy to enter the census! Nice!
