The feature story in Issue #152 is “The False Face Society,” which includes a Joker appearance. I really like this cover, it is one of the coolest covers in this set IMHO. Our 9.8 comes from the Alfred Pennyworth collection and is the single highest graded example in the census.
We acquired this book in the 3/30/2023 Heritage Auction, which was actually the third time this book has been auctioned since it was owned by Alfred Pennyworth. I don’t believe we participated in the first auction, but we did in the second, which went for about three times as much as the first time, so the first owner after Alfred Pennyworth made out like a bandit. The second owner was not so lucky, as we were lucky enough to acquire it for $10,000 less than the second auction. To say we were excited with the acquisition would be an understatement, things rarely break like that where you lose a book you really wanted and then pick it up a year later at a gigantic discount. I guess it’s a lesson to stop bidding on a book when it gets to a much higher level than expected if you are not committed to keeping it.
