Owner's Description

This issue marked the switch from using the "Card-Stock" cover. (a stiffer card-board like material)To the "Gloss" cover. This cover is a lot thinner with a shiny "gloss" to it. The reason for the change according to Marvel was "they could no longer afford to use the card stock cover and keep the Ultimate Spider-man cover price at $2.25." Hence the switch. There are pros and cons to both types of covers. I still prefer the old stock covers, because it was easier (for me at least) to handle, take care of, and store. Now "finding" an USM stock cover issue in Near Mint/Mint condition is altogether a different barrel o' monkeys! The gloss covers look wonderful, but it seems to me they are more prone to corner chipping, and shipping and handling binder damage, and especially finger smudging. Come on collectors, wash those fanboy hands of yours! LOL.
