Owner's Description

Blue foil negative cover by Cho - unknown ratio. This wraparound cover by Frank Cho was used for several variations of this cover. Cover A - the standard color cover which was one of three 1:1 ratio covers, a platinum foil full color cover used for Baltimore Comic Con, the negative image retailer incentive cover, and this blue foil negative image incentive cover. Unlike many of the other issues, I don't have any ratio or print run numbers for issue 13, except the Baltimore cover which was limited to 750 copies.
One thing you can say about Frank Cho's covers is that they are very much in the spirit of Frank Thorne's covers - because Cho likes a curvaceous Sonja (I think he draws a curvy everybody - it just fits well here). Plus Frank really likes an axe. I am disappointed that this monster axe that Sonja is cleaving everyone with is hidden behind the masthead - I think that was a poor artistic decision - it should have been over the top of the word Sonja. Frank really drew her in the midst of a strong scything motion, and with that many targets around her, it totally works. I'm not sure how she's so much higher than her opponents - maybe she standing on a pile of corpses. I don't think it matters to the image though. The image works and I believe it - from the perspective of someone who has swung a lot of 2-handed axes in my time. There isn't anything to say about the use of color in the negative image - but unlike a lot of negative image covers, the image still works really well. I think it's the large, fleshy areas of the image - which end up being a deep blue, that make it work so well.
Overall - yeah - Frank makes me want to buy this issue based on his cover.
