Brief Description:
At the Red Rocks Amphitheatre, William Connover’s wife, Hannah, wishes her husband luck before he goes onstage. As soon as he leaves, the paramedic Josey Thomas approaches Hannah and offers her a miracle cure for her arthritis. Elsewhere, the X-Men slay three more Brood mutants before the taking the fight to the amphitheatre. The audience panics at the site of the battered Wolverine, but Reverend Connover helps him fight his transformation into Brood. The X-Men then kill the rest of the Brood, except for Harry Palmer, who takes Hannah Connover as a hostage. Wolverine sneaks up from behind and kills Harry, putting an end to the Brood’s reign of terror in Denver. The X-Men disappear after the battle, but Reverend Connover makes a point of telling the news reporters that the mutants were the good guys and that mankind needs to be kinder to mutants, as they are humanity’s children. Nearby, Josey Thomas smiles sinisterly. Meanwhile, in Australia, Madelyne Pryor meets the demon S’ym in a vision, and inadvertently decides to take control of her life by turning down an evil path.

Story Notes:
The saga of Hannah and William Connover, the Brood, and the suspicious Josey Thomas continues in X-Men vs. the Brood: Day of Wrath. However, the Brood, as a species, appear next in Ghost Rider (3rd series) #26.
Red Rocks amphitheater is a natural amphitheater at the base of the Rocky Mountains a few miles west of Denver, Colorado.
On page nineteen, right before he dies, Spitball is erroneously referred to as Tension.
The Benjamin Franklin to which Wolverine refers comes from a letter he wrote to Jean Baptiste Le Roy on November 13th, 1789. The consequences of the choice Madelyne makes in this issue lead directly into the Inferno crossover.
Dive-bomber and Tension, the two Brood mutants Havok kills during this saga, are his first kills ever.
The X-Men have been invisible to electronic sensors since their resurrection by Roma in Uncanny X-Men #227 and should therefore not appear on the monitor at the end of this issue. However, since the monitor also somehow displayed Madelyne’s dreams, it’s possible its magical properties super-ceded the effects of Roma’s spell.
Chronologically speaking, the next issue of this series is Uncanny X-Men Annual #12.
