I decided to place these four Bloodlines Annuals right after the introduction of the four Supermen, and right as the Reign of the Supermen storyline kicked off. These Bloodlines Annuals would have had to take place during the Reign, but I am not sure exactly when each actually hit the shelves in relation to the rest of the Reign books, so this is about as close as I think I can get them.
This is the first 9.8 to enter the census! This book replaced a 9.6 that was the highest graded copy and one of only two in the census at the time. That one was from my own submission.
My Bloodlines set started because I wanted to get all four of the Superman titles with the stars of the Reign of the Supermen in them. Then I figured why stop there?
After I got my first 9.6 I submitted three more copies of this book to CCS/CGC in September 2022... I had hoped to get at least one 9.8 out of the bunch! They ended up receiving a 9.2, 9.4, and 9.6! Arrrggghhh... the search continued but I had lost a little steam on this one! I figured maybe I'd just wait on an already graded 9.8 (of which there were still none) to show up some day!
By November 2023 I had gathered about 25 more raw copies of this book, although none were solid 9.8’s I had a couple that I planned on sending in and giving a shot. Then this book suddenly popped up on eBay for BIN $95.00! I quickly snagged it. I would have preferred a direct but am very happy to have this book! It was the lone 9.8 at the time and with the newsstand designation, I am really surprised the seller didn’t give it the big newsstand price hike that many had been doing! This 9.8 completes my set of the four Superman Bloodlines Annuals all in 9.8. I am really happy about that!
I wanted to include the Superman Title Bloodlines 1993 Annuals in my Custom Set also… a friend and I were discussing whether these belonged with the Superman (Doomsday! Funeral for a Friend Reign of the Supermen) set. We were both on the fence, but I think we both also may have been waiting to see who could get them all in 9.8 first before committing either way... hmmm... I decided to include them with my larger Custom Set because first of all, they are really really really cool! Second, they include each of the four Supermen from Reign of the Supermen. Sure the story has nothing to do with The Reign but I think they look cool in the larger Custom Set as well as the Bloodlines set and I don’t need permission! LOL!
In April 2024 I was able to add a direct edition of this book in 9.8 to my collection as well. This being the first 9.8 I am going to leave this newsstand here, even if I prefer the appearance of directs. I put the direct edition in the second picture slot though... yay!!
