The Squadron's members are a take on DC's Justice League of America - Nighthawk corresponds to Batman, Doctor Spectrum to Green Lantern, Whizzer to Flash and Hyperion to Superman, in order to allow a virtual slug-fest to take place between Marvel and DC's premiere super-teams.
