Yellow Claw #1 features the first appearance of the Yellow Claw, and Jimmy Woo. It was published by Atlas Comics in 1957 and I believe is the only Atlas Comic that we own. The character reappears later in Marvel comics, which explains this book’s inclusion in this set.
This is one book that we would have never acquired were it not for the Registry, but it is a pretty cool 1950s cover. Our 9.2 is the single highest graded example of this issue and was the subject of a pretty spirited auction on Heritage. We placed our last bid and then I closed my computer, as at that stage we were absolutely all in. It was only later that I discovered, somewhat to my surprise, that our final bid had indeed won the book. We acquired the book in the 4/6/2024 Heritage Auction. In light of the final price, it was very much misplaced in the auction, as it certainly should have been in the live portion of that auction two days earlier. It goes without saying that this is another example where the registry points bear no correlation to the fair market value of this book.
