Issue #98 features the menacing Moon Man who has powers that subdue even Superman-and they said there was no man on the moon LOL. This is a particularly tough book to find in high grade with just one 9.2 and one 9.0 in the census. We had a chance to grab the 9.2 several years ago at auction, but that was when we were very early in putting this set together and had no recognition of how tough this book would be to obtain in high grade. I have offered the owner of that one a very nice profit, but he always turns me down, so when this 9.0 popped up in the May 2025 CL Auction-and it was at the very end of that auction, we made sure to grab it.
With this title, we have learned pricing them is always a guessing game. These books are definitely less popular than either the Superman or Batman titles and sometimes highest graded copies go for a song. But then there is always the occasional bidding was that breaks out on them too. This book gives us all but two issues in this newly created SA Finest set, so we are fortunately nearing the finish line. The same cannot be said, however, for our other WF sets. So we may decide to just focus on these books and jettison the others to raise cash for other acquisitions. But first, we need those two missing issues and, as of yet, I have not found a single one that is at or higher than the targeted grade we have established, so the quest goes on.
