DC's German flying ace Hans von Hammer was so popular in backup features of Our Army At War that he got a shot at stardom in this title. The Ace made his fourth appearance overall here, and he was in the hands of his original creative team, writer Bob Kanigher and artist Joe Kubert. Here we see the character in action in the black of night... but the black cover of this Book has made high grade copies of this issue extremely rare. Our 9.6 is the single highest graded copy in existence, BUT, it is also Qualified as the cover is detached from the boom staple. We found this issue while watching Selling Superman and the segment on Mile High Comics in Denver; we had never done anything with that dealer, but decided to check out their website and found this book. The label was absolutely impossible to read, but when I called the store and found out the issue, I decided it would be worth the gamble in light of the fact that there are no other 9.6s or 9.8s, Qualified or not. We acquired the book in August 2025.
