Thor battles the Lava Man in another cool cover. If you examine the cover closely, it appears that both Thor and the Lava Man are giants, relative to the size of the puny humans below. This is one of the toughest books in the run to find in high grade as there are just a pair of 9.8s and three 9.6s in the census-and a lot of Thor collectors. For the last 15 years we only had a 9.4 in this slot, but we were finally able to pick up this 9.8 in the 2/25/2026 ComicLink Auction. This book came from Doug Schmell’s collection, which was auctioned off at Heritage in July 2012. So basically, it’s about as good as you can get and we are happy to finally have one.
