Synopsis
This comic was a freebee given out at select comic stores in 1995 as well the 1995 San Diego Comic-Con. Produced by Image Comics, who published the saga from #21 through #27, it was meant to bring new readers up to speed regarding the first twenty issues as well as give a little history lesson about Jeff & Cartoon Books.

The Slab
Currently the highest graded SS! My raw copy signed and sketched by Jeff (Fone Bone) at the 2009 Baltimore Diamond Retailer's summit and witnessed by GOTHAMCENTRAL (with help from Joel Elad). Prior to getting signed, professionally pressed by Classics Incorporated. Officially graded by CGC on November 16, 2009.

Inside The Comic
Two pages of introduction by Jeff Smith, three pages of character profiles, two pages for a color poster insert by Jim Lee, two & a half pages for a story summary, and a half page about the Cartoon Books crew. The inside front cover has a Table of Contents with the following entries: Letter From Jeff - 1, Heroes and Villains Character Profiles - 2, Pin Up drawn by Jim Lee - Centerfold, The Timeline So Far - 5, Cartoon Books Staff Photo - 8, Bone Checklist - Inside Back Cover, and What’s Coming Up - Inside Back Cover. The credits are as follows: Jeff Smith - Creator, Cartoonist; Andries Mulder - Heroes and Villains, Checklist; Karen Root - Timeline, Layout; Doug Griffith - Book Design; David Reed - Cover Airbrush. For Image: Larry Marder as Executive Director and Tony Lobito as Publisher. For Cartoon Books: Vijaya Iyer as President and Karen Root as Assistant Publisher. The back cover has the shipping schedule thru August 1996 above illustrations of Kingdok, the Great Red Dragon, and a rat creature.

Introduction
Jeff emphasizes that he did not sell out when moving publishing rights from Cartoon Books to Image Comics. Since Image is run by its creators, they retain all of the publishing, advertising, merchandising, and movie licenses for their creations. In regard to production, Cartoon Books will still be doing most of the work with all the same overhead costs that it had before. This will keep the $2.95 cover price the same. The only superficial change that readers will see is that two pages of ads are traded with the other guys at Image. No money is exchanged and Jeff gets to choose which black & white Image ads he wants to run. He also said: “On occasion, if there is a book I really like outside of Image—I will still run an ad free of charge for that book, just like I always did.”

Character Profiles
The Heroes section has drawings of Fone Bone, The Red Dragon, Thorn, Phoney, Smiley, Lucius, Gran’ma Ben, and Ted. It also has each of their full names along with other stats like Powers and Abilities, Eye color, Weight, Hide or Hair Color, a brief History and Quotes. The Villains section is pretty much the same and includes The Hooded One, The Lord of the Locusts, Kingdok, and the Rat Creatures.

Pin-Up
The Pinup by Jim Lee is in color and shows the Bone cousins in a two page spread with three members of the WildC.A.T.s team. Phoney had apparently stolen Grifter’s costume as he looks on half naked from the doorway.

Timeline
The timeline shows various panels and covers from earlier issues along with captions that catch everyone up through issue #20. A picture of the Cartoon Books crew at the time is included on page 8 and shows Andries Mulder, Vijaya Iyer, Jeff Smith, and Karen Root. There’s also a brief biography of Jeff Smith and the Bone characters, noting their first publication in the pages of Ohio State University’s The Lantern (as a comic strip). Jeff, of course, founded Cartoon Books in 1991 to publish their first comic book and Vijaya joined as a full partner and president in 1993. The summer of 1995 marked their new partnership with Image Comics.

What’s Coming Up & Bone Checklist
What’s Coming Up on the inside back cover had a colored preview of the cover to #21 with a brief synopsis and its release date (October 1995). An Image reprint of Bone #1 would come out in November and the rest of the issues would be published on a monthly basis with brand new covers by Jeff. The Bone Checklist listed each of the comics from #1 to #20 along with their titles. Also included are the ten different Bone Pins (BN-1 to BN-10), four Magazine Covers (Overstreet Comic Book Monthly 11, Comics Journal 173, Hero Illustrated 16, and Inks: Cartoon and Comic Art Studies Vol 2: No. 1), four Collected Editions (Out From Boneville Hardcover Edition and the three Complete Bone Adventures TPBs), Bone Trading Cards (Series I Card Set, Series II All-Chromium Card Set, and Cards Illustrated’s Two-sided Cut-out Stand-Up Action Cards), Disney Adventures (three parts of the color reprint of Bone #1 and the original story May the Force Be With You in the August 1994 edition), Give-Aways (Holiday Special 1 from Hero Illustrated, Bone 13 1/2 from Wizard Press, and the Bone Sourcebook from Image Comics), Highly Collectible (Fone Bone Limited Edition Coldcast figurine and the Bone Cousins Limited Edition Signed and Numbered Pin Set), and the Convention Special (Bone Flip Book).
